Trong phần đầu, quí vị nhớ lại và đoán xem một khách đã mời lên đài tên là gì. Studies=danh từ số nhiều (số ít: study), việc học, việc nghiên cứu (a class of Vietnamese studies, môn Việt học), còn có nghỉa là phòng học, phòng nghiên cứu. Tell us about your studies=kể cho chúng tôi nghe những môn bạn học. Science=khoa học. Scientist=khoa học gia. Scientific=adj. có tính cách khoa học. Bạn ở nội trú? Yes, I live in a dormitory=tôi ở trong ký túc xá. First-year students are required to live on campus=sinh viên năm thứ nhất phải ở nội trú, trong ký túc xá đại học. Ngoài khuôn viên đại học, ngoại trú: off campus. Upperclass students can live off campus.=sinh viên các lớp trên có thể ở ngoại trú. Quí vị có nhớ chữ gì chỉ sinh viên năm thứ nhất? —freshmen.
