Đây là chương trình Anh ngữ Sinh động, New Dynamic English, bài thứ 33. Phạm Văn xin kính chào quí vị thính giả.

Trong phần đầu, quí vị nghe câu đố “Question of the Week”; sau đó nghe thuật lại một vụ ăn trộm (break in); và tiếp theo là phần Functioning in Business về nhắn tin và ghi lại lời nhắn trong điện thoại.

Eliz: OK, Arnold. Tell us, how long have you worked at Advanced Technologies.
Arnold: Oh, I’ve been there for about five years.
Eliz: Do you like your job?
Arnold: Oh, very much. I enjoy talking to people.
Eliz: Do you get many calls from overseas?
Arnold: Yes, we do.
We sell a lot of our products overseas, so we get a lot of questions from foreign customers.
Eliz: Do they ussually speak English?
Arnold: Of course. When people call most American companies, they need to speak English.
Eliz: As you know, last year, we recorded a number of your phone conversations. Arnold: Yes.

Trong phần VARIATIONS, quí vị nghe cách nói một ý bằng hai cách. Thí dụ khi muốn nói,”Ông có muốn nhắn lại không?” thì có thể nói hai cách:

“Can I take your message?” hay, “Would you like to leave a message?” Thí dụ nữa: Tell him và Let him know, trong hai câu:”Could you please tell him I called?”, hay “Could you please let him know I called?”

Interview: Receptionist: Taking Messages.
Eliz: Is it difficult to take messages on the phone?
Arnold: Not really. But it’s very important for me to confirm the information I hear.
Eliz: For example?
Arnold: Well, for example, spelling. Foreign names are sometimes difficult to understand. So I usually ask the caller to spell his or her name. It’s even more important to confirm numbers: phone numbers, addresses, and so on.
Eliz: Yes, if a phone number is not correct, you can’t call back.
Arnold: Exactly. So I’m always sure to repeat back a phone number.
Eliz: I see. Thank you very much for speaking wih us.
Arnold: Thank you. I’ve enjoyed being here.
