Story Interlude: Elizabeth’s Wedding Plans
SFX: show ending music, door opening, footsteps
Larry: Thanks, folks. Good show!
Eliz: Hi, folks.
Kathy: Hi, Elizabeth.
So, Elizabeth, when’s the wedding?
Have you chosen a date?
Eliz: No, not yet. It’ll be sometime in the spring.
Probably early June.
Kathy: Will Boris’s family come to the wedding?
Eliz: Unfortunately, no.
He has a big family, and most of them live in Russia.
It would be too expensive.
But on our honeymoon, we’re going to go to Russia.
And I’ll have a chance to meet all of his family then.
Max: Have you ever been to Russia?
Eliz: No, I haven’t. And I’m really looking forward to it.
Well, I’ll let you know when we choose a date.
Eliz: And of course you’ll all be invited!
Kathy: Great!
Larry: We’ll be looking forward to it!
Eliz: Well, I’d better get started.
Larry: OK. It’s time for Functioning in Business. Quiet please…

They’re discussing whether or not to buy the robots produced by Mr. Blake’s company, International Robotics, a Chinese company. Họ đang bàn có nên mua hay không mua người máy tự động do hãng của ông Blake là International Robotics, một hãng Trung hoa, sản xuất.
Graham: …Yes, in China.
The quality of their product is extremely good,…
…but I don’t know anything about their reliability.
Can they be relied on to do this by October first?
You know, we’ve worked with United Industries before.
I think we should just go ahead on the deal with them.
I feel sure they can have everything installed and working by October first.
Epstein: Well, look, but there’s another argument, Shirley.
I agree with you, they haven’t established themselves in the States.
But that’s an advantage.
We can get their technology before other companies can, if we’re willing to take the risk.
I think we really have to take that risk.
Graham: Well, I think basically that’s what it comes down to, Mike.
You want to take the risk, and I really am not willing to.
I don’t feel I can afford to take the risk.
Epstein: Oh, but what have I been doing for the last year?
I’ve been looking for the new technology to really make this factory something special.
And I think that this is what we need to do.
I can’t understand why you disagree with this. It’s very clear.
Graham: And I think you’ve done a very good job.
But I think that there are more disadvantages than advantages.
I’m sorry, Mike.
But I’m afraid that the decision just isn’t going to go your way.
Epstein: But what about his report tomorrow?
Shouldn’t we listen to his final proposal before we make a decision?
Graham: Oh…..you’re probably right. I want to be fair to him.
Epstein: So do I.
